Terms of Service

Last updated: October 7, 2026

1. Agreement to Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and WxSentinel ("WxSentinel," "we," "us," or "our"), operated by WxSentinel LLC, a Wisconsin limited liability company, governing your access to and use of the WxSentinel website, dashboard, and related services (collectively, the "Service") at wxsentinel.net. By creating an account, checking the box confirming your acceptance, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Important Safety Disclaimer: Read This First

WxSentinel is a monitoring and notification convenience tool. It is NOT an official source of weather warnings and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the National Weather Service (NWS), NOAA, or any government agency. WxSentinel displays and forwards publicly available NWS alert data, but delivery is not guaranteed. Alerts may be delayed, incomplete, inaccurate, or may fail to arrive at all due to issues with the NWS data feed, the internet, your email or phone carrier, or the Service itself.

Do not rely on WxSentinel as your only source of severe weather information. For life-safety decisions, always use official channels: NOAA Weather Radio, Wireless Emergency Alerts on your mobile phone, local emergency management, and broadcast media. WxSentinel is a supplement to, not a replacement for, official warning systems.

3. Weather Data & Alert Limitations

In addition to the safety disclaimer above, you specifically acknowledge and agree that WxSentinel:

  • does not guarantee that every National Weather Service (NWS) alert issued for a location you monitor will be received, detected, processed, or delivered to you, whether on the dashboard, by email, or by SMS;
  • does not guarantee the geographic accuracy of alert matching. Warnings are matched using polygon data and watches are matched using county boundaries as published by the NWS, and these methods can occasionally include or exclude a location near a boundary edge differently than the NWS's own systems would;
  • may experience outages, downtime, or degraded performance, whether caused by WxSentinel's own systems, the NWS's systems and data feeds, or any third-party service WxSentinel depends on (see Section 11, "Third-Party Data and Services");
  • may receive, and pass along, malformed, incomplete, delayed, or entirely unavailable data from the NWS's upstream systems, over which WxSentinel has no control;
  • checks for new alerts on a periodic cycle rather than instantaneously, currently every 10 seconds for the dashboard and every 10 minutes for email and SMS notifications, so there is an inherent delay between an alert's issuance and its appearance in the Service; and
  • is not responsible for any decision you make, or fail to make, based on the presence, absence, timing, or content of any alert shown or sent by the Service.

These limitations exist because WxSentinel is built on top of publicly available NWS data and a chain of third-party infrastructure, none of which WxSentinel can guarantee will always be accurate, complete, or available. Always treat official NWS/NOAA channels and local emergency management as your primary source for severe weather information. See Section 2 above.

4. Settings That Silence or Hide Alerts

The Service gives you controls that deliberately reduce what you see and hear. When you use them, you are choosing not to be told about certain alerts, and that choice is yours. These controls exist because a dashboard that cannot be quieted gets muted at the wall socket, which is worse. You should understand what each one does:

  • Mute. Silences the audible chime for every alert. The alert still appears on the dashboard, but nothing sounds.
  • “Still chime for…”. While muted, you may name specific alert types that should still make a sound. Anything you do not name stays silent, including a Tornado Warning, if you have not listed it. An empty list means mute silences everything.
  • Quiet hours (Do Not Disturb). Suppresses email and text notifications during a window you choose. Alerts arriving in that window are not sent to you.
  • Alert settings. Turning an alert type off removes it from your dashboard and your notifications entirely.
  • Hiding clear locations. Hides locations with nothing currently active. It does not stop an alert from appearing when one arrives.

These are per-user settings. They affect only your own view and your own notifications, not your teammates' and not the account's. They do not change whether the National Weather Service issued an alert, and they do not change the official channels described in Section 2, which remain your primary source regardless of how the Service is configured.

WxSentinel is not responsible for an alert you did not see or hear because of a setting you chose. If several people depend on alerts for the same site, we strongly recommend configuring more than one recipient (see Section 8) rather than relying on a single person's settings.

5. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to create an account. By creating an account, you represent that you meet these requirements.

6. Accounts

You must provide a valid email address and accurate account information, and are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and for all activity under your account. Notify us promptly at contact@wxsentinel.net if you suspect unauthorized use. Account owners may invite team members; owners are responsible for their team's use of the Service under their account.

7. Subscription Plans & Billing

WxSentinel offers a Free tier and paid subscription tiers (Pro, ProPlus, Business, Enterprise), each with different location, user, and feature limits described at wxsentinel.net/about.html#pricing, which may change from time to time.

Paid subscriptions are billed in advance on a recurring monthly or annual basis through our payment processor, Stripe, and automatically renew until canceled. You can cancel anytime from your account settings or the Stripe billing portal; cancellation stops future billing, but we do not provide refunds or credits for partial billing periods already paid. We may change subscription prices with reasonable advance notice; continued use after a price change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the new price. Downgrading to a lower tier may be blocked if your current usage (locations, users) exceeds the lower tier's limits until you reduce usage accordingly.

8. Email and Text (SMS) Alerts

If you opt in, WxSentinel may send you email and/or SMS text message notifications about severe weather alerts matching your chosen settings.

  • Email alerts can be turned off anytime via the one-click unsubscribe link in any alert email or in Settings.
  • SMS alerts: by checking the box and providing your phone number in Settings, you consent to receive automated text messages from WxSentinel at that number. Message frequency varies and depends on severe weather activity at your monitored locations. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any message to stop all texts, or turn off Text Alerts in Settings. Reply HELP for help. Consent to receive SMS alerts is not required to purchase or use any other part of the Service. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Each plan includes a fixed number of alert recipients. A recipient is one email address or one phone number that receives alerts, counted separately from the number of people who can sign in to your dashboard. The current allowance for each plan is shown on our pricing page and in Settings. Adding a recipient beyond your plan's allowance is refused until you remove one or upgrade; recipients already on your account are never removed automatically, including if you downgrade.

Email and SMS delivery depends on providers and carriers outside our control (see Section 11). We do not guarantee that any notification will be delivered, delivered intact, or delivered within any particular time.

9. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • use the Service for any unlawful purpose;
  • attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other accounts, or our systems;
  • interfere with or disrupt the Service or the servers/networks connected to it;
  • scrape, reverse-engineer, or resell access to the Service without our written permission; or
  • use the Service to monitor locations for harassment or stalking purposes.

10. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its software, design, and the WxSentinel name and logo, is owned by WxSentinel and protected by intellectual property laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Service for its intended purpose. You retain ownership of the location names and other information you input; you grant us a license to use that information solely to provide and improve the Service.

11. Third-Party Data and Services

WxSentinel displays alert data sourced from the National Weather Service's public api.weather.gov feed and relies on third-party service providers to operate. These include Supabase for database and authentication, Stripe for payments, Resend for email delivery, Twilio for SMS delivery, Netlify for hosting, and Cloudflare for DNS and content delivery. We are not responsible for outages, errors, or data inaccuracies originating from these third parties.

12. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, TIMELY, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE. WE DO NOT WARRANT THE ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, OR TIMELINESS OF ANY WEATHER ALERT OR NOTIFICATION.

13. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WXSENTINEL LLC AND ITS MEMBERS AND MANAGERS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF LIFE, PERSONAL INJURY, PROPERTY DAMAGE, OR LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR REVENUE, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE SERVICE, INCLUDING ANY DELAYED, UNDELIVERED, OR INACCURATE ALERT, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE, OR $50 IF YOU ARE ON THE FREE PLAN. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THESE LIMITATIONS, SO SOME OF THE ABOVE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability to the extent such liability cannot legally be excluded or limited under applicable law.

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless WxSentinel LLC and its members and managers from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your violation of these Terms or misuse of the Service.

This includes claims arising from your redistribution of the Service's output to others, for example by adding employees, contractors, tenants, or members of the public as alert recipients, relaying alerts onward by any means, or displaying the dashboard where others rely on it. If you put the Service in front of people who did not agree to these Terms themselves, you are responsible for making sure they understand Sections 2, 3 and 4: that WxSentinel is a supplement to official warning systems, that delivery is not guaranteed, and that settings you or they choose can silence alerts.

15. Termination and Deleting Your Account

You may stop using the Service and cancel your subscription at any time. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, engage in fraudulent or abusive behavior, or if we discontinue the Service, with notice where practical.

Deleting an account is a request, not an instant action, and this is deliberate. The account owner asks from Settings. Nothing is removed at that moment and the Service continues exactly as before, alerts included, so that asking to leave never costs anyone a warning. We then close the account, which ends access for everyone on it. Your data is retained for 30 days after that, during which we can restore the account in full if the request was a mistake. After 30 days your locations, alert history, team, notification recipients and tags are permanently erased and cannot be recovered by us or by you.

Cancel any paid subscription before requesting deletion. We do not cancel your billing on your behalf as part of a deletion, and we will ask you to cancel it first rather than leave a card being charged for an account nobody can reach.

If your alert history matters to you, export or record what you need before you ask. It is the record of what the Service showed and sent, and after the 30 days it is gone. Note also that alert history is retained for 24 months and then deleted automatically, whether or not you are closing your account.

16. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, notify you by email or an in-app notice. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.

17. Governing Law & Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wisconsin, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Wisconsin, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
